Where Does the Complex Money Go? |

|
The New Mexico Soccer Tournament Complex is the largest, privately owned soccer facility in the Western U.S. The Complex has 22 full size soccer fields dedicated solely to the game of soccer. SWYC leases the Complex from Sandoval County and the Santa Ana Pueblo under a long-term lease. It is owned by Southwest Youth Soccer Corporation (SYSC), a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation. The board of SWYC includes representatives from Mew Mexico Youth Soccer Association, Duke City Soccer League, Northwest Rio Grande Soccer League, New Mexico State Soccer Association and New Mexico High School Soccer Coaches Association. The Complex generates revenue from 6 primary sources: Member fees and contracts from New Mexico Youth Soccer Association, Duke City Soccer League, Northwest Rio Grande Soccer League, New Mexico State Soccer Association and Albuquerque Public Schools, tournament fees, parking fees, Lovelace sponsorship and concessions. Primary operating expenses include labor for field maintenance, fertilizer and seed, electricity, lease payments to Santa Ana, interest expense on borrowings and administrative expenses. For the year ended June 30, 2002, the Complex incurred an operating loss of approximately $39,000. The following charts show revenues and expenses by major category for the year ended June 30, 2002:
As you can see from the above charts, the complex operates at substantially a break-even level. Revenues at the current levels allow the complex to maintain the fields at their present state. Improvements, such as restroom facilities, paved parking and roads and landscaping can only be added through the generation of additional revenue sources. We hope this information helps you to better understand the operations of the Complex.
